The Pierce College Women’s basketball team (12-14, 3-6) lost for the second straight time Saturday as they went down battling against the Santa Barbara Vaqueros.

Pierce began the game struggling falling behind 20-6 to start the game as Santa Barbara went on a point frenzy led by Francesca DeAngelis who had 12 points in the first half.

The Brahmas however refused to throw in the towel coming back from a 14-point deficit.

Timisha Dixon posted 6 points, Tessondra Williams, and Candyse Farmer contributed with 7 to help Pierce close out the first strong on a 24-12 run to put them down, 34-30 at halftime.

The Vaqueros had 10 fouls in the first which was a huge advantage for the free-throw happy Brahmas who were eight for eight in the first half.

The second half started out tight and was throughout, as both teams were neck to neck and fans on both sides were doing some nail biting.

But the lack of depth got to the Brahmas who only played seven, as they not only had costly turnovers but also missed key free throws, but gave up the tie and ended up losing, 77-65.

“We miss one of our starters in Jessica LogoLogo and makes a big difference.” said Pierce head coach, Jim Couch.

Williams who missed the last game against the Vaqueros and was nursing an ankle injury  had a game high 23 points for the second straight game, DeAngelis had a team high 22 points, 8 rebounds for Santa Barbara.

“It bothers me, I don’t have full movement” said Williams. “but it’s not pain, it’s discomfort.”

The Brahmas will play there next game at home against Ventura College Saturday February 13.
