Pierce College men’s tennis team suffered a non-conference loss at home against Mt. San Jacinto College Thursday.
The Brahmas three match winning streak came to a halt after the Mt. San Jacinto College Eagles handled the singles action with a 5-1 win and a 2-1 win in the doubles matches.
David Castillo, 28, had the only win in singles, defeating Joel Duenas from MSJC 6-3, 6-1.
Castillo dominated his match and stayed consistent with his hitting.
Pierce freshman Royce Passiliao and Navjeeran Sandhu had a close game with a 9-7 win against Jonathan Wicks and Tyler Park from MSJC at No.3 doubles.
At No.1 singles Emmanuel Mensah and Pierce’s Ari Cohen ended in a 0-6, 1-6 MSJC win.
Pierce freshman Daniel Barrera lost 0-6, 0-6 against Garbor Toth at No.2 singles.
At No.5 singles James Bragg from MSJC defeated freshman Patrick James 2-6, 6-7.
At No.1 doubles David Castillo and Logan Feldstien were defeated 0-8 by Emmanuel Mensah and Garbor Toth from MSJC.
James Bragg and Richard Tetteh from MSJC defeated Ari Cohen and Patrick Massey at No.2 doubles 4-8.
The majority of the Pierce men’s tennis team are freshman.
Even though this is still a loss, head coach Rajeev Datt is optimistic about his team.
“For having such a young team, they played great,” said Datt. “I’m really proud. We’ll be just fine for the rest of the season.
Pierce hosts their next match against Ventura College, Thursday, Feb.18 at 2 p.m.
