Patience is not always a virtue

Elliot Golan

Dear Barack Obama,

“The clever combatant imposes his will on the enemy, but does not allow the enemy’s will to be imposed on him.”

These words come from Sun Tzu’s legendary book on military strategy, The Art of War.

Of the many threats to the American people, one of the highest is a nuclear Iran.

It is time to act.

Continuing on this path of empty threats and verbal wrist slaps will not solve the problem.

To this point, the will of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been more stalwart than yours.

Week after week, we are notified of another step Iran is taking toward nuclear proliferation. They insist that nuclear advancements will be used for medical purposes only.

From the discovery of a secret nuclear facility last September to the announcement of Iran installing more advanced uranium enrichment centrifuges this month, there is no doubt that Iran is taking action.

You have threatened with sanctions.

They do not care.

They are not scared.

Your constituents, however, are.

Earlier this month, one day after imposing new sanctions, Ahmadinejad called Iran “A nuclear state” and stated that U.S. efforts to halt their program would not work.

A report from the International Atomic Energy Agency this month warned that Iran may be working on constructing a nuclear warhead.

Nonetheless, 30000 more troops were sent to Afghanistan in December.

Are we to believe that a nuclear Iran is somehow less of a threat than Afghanistan?

Nobody wins in war. Thus, our initial patience and attempts at diplomacy are understandable.

But enough is enough.

War has purpose. If righteousness prevails, a war ideally protects the innocent by subduing the malicious.

We must meet this threat. The U.S. and our planet as a whole is in grave danger.

As the leader of the most powerful and influential country in the world, the burden falls on you to protect the citizens of Earth.

It is an enormous weight to hold, that is for sure. However, it is a responsibility you wanted.

As leader of the free world, it is incumbent upon you to make decisions that help that world retain it’s freedom.

Our initial strategy has failed.

One method remains.

Please remember, that as Saint Augustine once said, “The purpose of all wars…is peace.”

Respectfully,

Concerned constituent
