The Mission of the radio station is, “Community First,” and now Pierce College will bring, for very first time, a radio station that will not only cover events and news within the college but events outside of campus beginning April 2010.
For years, radio has been a form of communication that has connected and informed the world. It is a form in which we can stay updated on current and or upcoming events.
“Just because it’s not Pierce related doesn’t mean it doesn’t have to be covered,” said Natalie Yemenidjian, the station manager. She explains how the radio will make students appreciate how it profiles their lives and their community.
“My wish is that in five to ten years the radio station will be really good,” said Courtney Coles, the music producer of the radio station. This is a new project for the school and it will essentially be a learning experience for all individuals involved in the radio station and the listeners.
The radio can serve as a guide and clear up all the obscurities one may have regarding the community college, the city, or their back yard.
“We only have to open up their eyes a little bit”, said senior staff member, Arnabaz Fatemi. “It’s raw, the musicians who haven’t made it, no one knows how deep they are or how silly they are.” One of their goals is to serve as a stage for new artists who haven’t had a connection with fans.
The station, designated as, KPCR, wants to give an opportunity to people who are gifted but have not had the chance to be recognized. Also, if you have been curious or afraid of certain topics or part of a minority group you will have the chance to represent and express your lifestyle.
An opportunity for all listeners to learn and focus on our beautiful city as well as the equally stunning San Fernando Valley. It is a chance to be a part of a beginning that is making history on our campus, hopefully, for many years to come.
The radio station will be running 24/7 and consists of five editors/producers and it is located in the Village room 8213.
