Dance audition fever

Jessica Conway / Roundup

Dance and Choreography auditions were held in the North Gym’s Dance Studio at 9:00 am on Sunday.

Merian Weiser, the dance teacher directed several choreographers and hundreds of dancers in the event.

The auditions ran smoothly each choreographer introduced themselves and stated what type of dancing they were interested in, Tribal, Jazz, Tap, Theatrical, Ballet, and Hip Hop were just a few mentioned.

Each dancer was then taught a little piece of dance from each dance instructor. The dance instructors then picked which dancers they like and call them the following week.

Dancers who disagree with which instructor has called them back can re-audition the first twenty minutes of the first rehearsal. For Dancers who missed the auditions on Sunday auditions will also be open to audition. This will be on March 21 in the Dance Studio.

“This is my first audition at Pierce College, I’m just looking for something new and exciting on my journey to a degree,” stated Heather Ashleigh, the theatrical dance choreographer.

Dance rehearsals will go on in the Dance Studio every Sunday, the time will depend upon which choreographer each dancer was chosen by.

“Today is a good opportunity for dancers to get out of their shells,” said Jay Zornes, the House Party dance instructor.

“The auditions show expression through dance,” states Russell McFadden, Jay’s Assistant, “communication through dance is important because actions can speak louder than words.”
