Parents, Families, and Friends of Gays and Lesbians (PFLAG) hosted a discussion panel yesterday in the Great Hall.
During the PFLAG Panel panelists discussed their personal experiences about being a lesbian and having a child who is gay.
Sylvia Weisenberg, board of director of PFLAG of L.A, told her parents she was a lesbian when she was 18 years old.
Mel Schwartz, a PFLAG panelist, came out to her mom when she was 14 years old. Her mother cried that she wouldn’t get to be a grandmother but Mel and her partner are the parents of a 5-year-old girl.
Steve Krantz, regional director of PFLAG, has a son who told him he was gay. When Krantz son came out ,he wasn’t upset of the fact that he was gay, but concerned for his safety.
PFLAG is a non-profit organization that has more than 350 chapters nationwide.
