Tattoos do not affect my work

Jessica Conway / Roundup

Do tattoos really limit a person from getting where they plan in life? It seems as though today tattoos are becoming more poplar and accepted by more “old fashioned” people.

In a statistically taken survey about forty percent of Americans have tattoos, according to www.vanishingtattoo.com . Considering that is almost half of the United States’ population it would be thought that tattoos would be more acceptable in a place of work.

Unfortunately it is true that a person can be ruled out of a job because of the art on their body, which is ridiculous because a person should be able to express themselves while still being professional in other ways.

In certain cases being terminated for not concealing a tattoo can happen but under other circumstances its possible for a company to be sued.

Religious rights will be backed up by a court house if legitimate proof is available an the tattoo is not causing hardship. Freedom laws will also support rights of a tattoo if the tattoo is not offensive to a community and the place of work isn’t a private company.

Other than those two rights nothing protects people who have legally put something they support on their own body. It’s unfair to say Americans have so many rights when some rights of freedom are not being enforced to specific people for no good reasons.

Not being able to get a job because you have tattoos is equivalent to not letting someone participate in a social and economical lifestyle because of the accent they have. An accent is something you can change according to the personality you have or the place you locate yourself, just as tattoos.

Saying a person is unprofessional because they visibly express the way they feel is in some ways against freedom of choice, which is a right all Americans have.

Having a job is something every American needs to survive and if a person proves they qualify for a position in every way they should other than the fact of having a marking on their body, then they should at least be given a chance to prove themselves.

Some may argue that tattoos can be too controversial or can offend some people which is true but, the truth of this world is that it is full of controversy and offensive propaganda.

If the quote “All men were created equally.” is true then people with tattoos should get the same rights to a job that any other person would have.
