Blog: The Speech was short but inspirational. Elements such as How to write more detailed and how to be more observant in everyday life were discussed.
Bill Plaschke, a sports columnist for the Los Angeles Times, spoke about Journalism at Pierce College’s Great Hall on Wednesday at 6p.m.
Plaschke gave the Media Arts Department a wonderfully inspirational story, of Sarah Morris, a woman with cerebral Palsy who became a sports columnist on her own website through just her passion for writing and the Dodgers.
The power behind the story he spoke of was encouraging giving the whole room an uplifting feel.
“My story I wrote 8 hours ago is in print in font of me and everyone in the morning, it’s magical”, the instant gratification Plaschke explained as the greatest feeling he had felt.
The future for newspapers were discussed as well, Plaschke gave a positive vibe on how well newspapers were doing compared to other companies in this economy.
“There will always be a need for people to tell stories, and you can’t take a computer in the bathroom”, he said, these were just a few reasons the paper is still active today.
The speech ended with Plaschke, advising Journalists to write detailed, assertive, and knowledgeable by keeping their eyes opened and constantly being ready to write about anything unusual.
