The Pierce College Associated Students’ Organization elections have officially drawn to a close as Nick Naczinski earns a majority of the 1,176 votes cast. Declaring Naczinski the new ASO president over Kevin Sparks and write-in candidate Alex Tabolsky.

Naczinski’s final tally was, 588 over Sparks’ 429.

“It’s so nice to see hard work actually pay off,” said Naczinski. “All of the candidates were well-qualified; they’ll keep working hard.”

Tabolsky was optimistic about his future in the ASO.

“I’m going to apply to be senator,” said Tabolsky. “I still have a lot of ideas I would like to see happen. Hopefully senatorship will help me make things happen within the ASO. I have to address my weaknesses [lack of experience] from this recent election.”

Presidential candidate Kevin Sparks was unavailable to comment.

There has been an inquiry regarding the vice presidency, after claims that election rules were violated during the ballot count. According to ASO Advisor Brad Saenz, the offical count won’t be relased until Monday.

The unoffical count on the vice president ballot is 572-532 in favor of Lauren Aardema over Daniel Axelrod..

“I’m not pleased with the inquiry into the vice presdiency,” said Naczinski. “The students voted. Danny is my friend, but Lauren won fairly.”

In the contest for treasurer, Nima Jahanforouz garnered 514 votes over his nearest competitor, Asim Hamid, earning 383 votes.

“I’m looking forward to getting started next semester and completing my campaign promises,” Jahanforouz. “I would like to bring all the chairs together, so when can effectively communicate and have a healthy student government.”

Hamid wasn’t pleased with the outcome of the elections.

“I was kind of surprised,” said Hamid. “But at the same time, Nima [Jahanforouz] had a good strategy.”

Hamid pointed out, despite his defeat, the student body was still his primary concern.

Talia Elma, who ran without opposition, is Pierce’s new club council president after netting 839 votes.

“I wish I had an opponent,” said Elma. “It felt like I won by default—I wanted to win because people knew I was right for the job.”
