The widely known “Festival of Books” took place at UCLA’s campus this past weekend where admission was free to the public.
Authors from around the world attended the festival to discuss their books and sign them for attendees.
Alicia Silverstone, actress and author of “The Kind Diet,” made an appearance at the festival to discuss appropriate eating habits.
“I like to think of this book as a day’s journey and a new way of thinking,” said Silverstone.
Family activities were available as well, such as: face painting, story telling and games whichmade this event remarkably kid friendly.
It also featured the booth, “Reading Aloud,” which was a large booth with an interactive goat that informed children with games and prizes.
“I think it’s fun, playing tic-tac-toe was my favorite,” said Jewel Martinez, who won one of the many children’s contests.
Activities were also available for adults, such as “Dime Stories,” where specific writers came up on stage to tell their favorite three minute stories.
“One of the most popular things the festival is known for is the amazing workshops available to anyone, the catch is they cost money varying from $100-$200 but are absolutely worth it”, said short story writer, Debra Bird.
“My favorite part … was James Ellroy, my favorite author, he was straight up crazy poetic”, said Yahoo Engineer, Mark Kawakami.
“My favorite thing is the diversity of book selection. Liberty is given for [choosing between] book genres,” said college student, Crystal Rincon.
The festival was filled with so much excitement and entertainment it would be impossible to see everything, but trying was recommended.
