ASO President Shani Simms has stepped down from her position, as she is “no longer attending Pierce College this semester,” according to a Facebook message sent by her on Saturday.
Simms explains that due to her husband serving in the military, she will be moving out of state before finals and had to drop her classes. Because of this, she is no longer technically attending Pierce and therefore had to give up her position.
Chris Suard, the current vice president, will be taking over her duties for the remainder of the term. The change will not be official until Monday, according to Simms.
“I enjoyed serving you [the students] and I look forward to seeing you succeed in your educational venture,” said Simms, in the message.
Simms said that she chose to drop her classes on May 6 while she could still recieve a “W” instead of failing grades.
In an exclusive phone interview with Simms, she said that she has to “focus on other things in life,” and will be moving with her husband out of the country, where he will be stationed, in the near future.
More on this story will be provided as information becomes available.
