Fight outside Great Hall disturbs “Accept and Respect Festival”

Two students were reported to have fought right outside the Great Hall during its “Accept and Respect Festival” today.

It started in the line outside for fresh barbecue on this cold day.

“From what we were told, one person cut in front of the other one,” said Michael Shultz, sheriffs officer. “Words were exchanged, and by the time we got there, they were wrestling.”

But Shultz said the fight was pretty much broken up before they arrived.

Shultz said there was no knife involved.

Sheriffs Team Leader Deputy Ron Nohles suggested that some kind of knife for the barbecue could have been mistaken for a weapon.

Shultz said paramedics from the fire department were called for one man bleeding on the head, but he refused medical treatment.

Chris Suard, current ASO President, was cooking burgers outside the Great Hall for the festival when the incident occurred.

Suard identified Robert Rains as one of the individuals involved.

According to him, Rains said he went in line to talk to someone. Suard said that an unidentified male thought Rains was cutting in line.

The two started alledgelly “talking trash”. Then Suard said that Rains “pulled up his pants” and started fighting.

Suard said that he and about six others stepped in to stop the altercation.

“We did break up the fight,” said Suard.

Suard said that Rains cut himself on the corner of a blue recycling receptacle. He said Rains was more aggressive, and he thinks Rains may’ve accidentally hit the other man.

According to Shultz, both students declined to press charges against each other.

He said there will be an incident report written.
