Vice President of Academic Affairs on the move

Bryan Melara / Roundup

Pierce College’s Vice President of Academic Affairs, Nabil Abu-Ghazaleh, will step down from his current position as of Sept. 30.

Abu-Ghazaleh will take a higher position with the Coast Community College District as Vice Chancellor of Educational Services and Technology.

“It’s certainly a promotion for me,” he said. “It’s a three college district and I’ll be working with presidents, vice presidents and deans.”

CCCD’s Board of Trustees appointed Abu-Ghazaleh to the position in a “special meeting” Wednesday afternoon.

The change comes after he served as Vice President of Academic Affairs since 2006 and has also been a member of the Academic Senate.

“It’s a mixed emotions situation,” he said, about his new position. “I’ve built relationships at Pierce and developed projects.”

His new position entails coordinating the three colleges in the CCCD on instruction,
student services and technology.

Abu-Ghazaleh will begin his new position with the CCCD Oct. 1.

“I will work up to the last day unless my wife prevails on me to take vacation the last few days.” he said, in an e-mail.
