Pierce College and the Los Angeles Unified District hosted the fifth annual College Fair Extraordinaire in Woodland Hills Saturday, to present the public with a variety of representatives and workshops from over 100 nationwide colleges.
CSUN, Columbia College, and all of the Universities of California were in attendance.
The free public event provided high school students, parents and transfer students with tips on how to get involved in special programs and majors that different campuses offer.
Numerous tents were set up along the Mall, all filled with pamphlets, guidelines and college representatives to relay informative tips on the next step to students’ education.
“I think it is a great idea because not only do students get a fair, but they also have the opportunity to participate in workshops so they will be ready for the admissions process,” said Gigi McGuire, Assistant Director of Community and Academic Partnerships at CSUN.
McGuire hosted one of the many workshops during the fair, providing insight on the CSU schools and the CSU Application.
“My goal with this workshop is for students to learn how to access the CSU system and learn more about our campuses that they may not have known before,” she said.
Cuca Acosta, Assistant Director of High School Services at University of California, Santa Barbara, shared similar thoughts on the event.
“This is my fifth year attending this fair and representing UC Santa Barbara,” said Acosta. “I enjoy coming out and informing students on the admissions process for our school.”
Lily Sandoval, a senior at El Camino Real High School, was pleased to know that representatives like McGuire provided these kinds of services to the Pierce community.
“We don’t have to go to the schools to get the information, [now] they come to us,” said Sandoval.
Michelle Maniyan, another senior at El Camino Real High School, was also pleased with the convenience of the fair.
“I’ve always wondered what different schools, in and out of state, had to offer. Now I can [find out] right in my own backyard.”
