Pierce College had many renovations this summer. One of the college’s new features is the intercom system.
The system which is still under going construction, was added to certain classrooms to assist professors with any acts of belligerent activity in classrooms or surrounding areas.
Sheriff Team Leader, Ron Nohles spoke about the intercom system and how it’ll allow professors and staff members to call sheriffs in case of any emergency.
“It rings to the sheriffs office direct line in case there’s a problem with a student,” said Nohles.
Brian Patrick Walsh, a history assistant professor is very knowledgeable about the intercom system.
“There’s one red button and a black one, ones for an emergency and one just to call the sheriffs,” he said.
Walsh highly regarded the system.
“It was a good idea and investment for the school to take this step towards safety,” he said. “I don’t see any negative effect, if there’s an emergency or a medical emergency for any reason you push a button and it links to the sheriffs.”
Students showed faith in the system.
“Yeah but it’ll probably work it just depends how far the class is and how long they get there, but it’s a good idea,” said Michelle Zavala, 20, student.
