California Community College (CCC) students with hopes of transferring to California State Universities (CSU) got good news Thursday as Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed two major legislations. The Senate Bill 1440 and Assembly Bill 2302.
SB 1440 amended by Senator Alex Padilla and also known as the Student Transfer Achievement Reform (STAR) Act will facilitate the transfer process for students, by guaranteeing admission to any CSU after achieving an associate degree.
“This simplified process will save students significant time and resources as they transfer from a community college to a CSU campus,” said Dr. Jack Scott, chancellor of the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office in an e-mail sent to CCCs. “[CSU] Chancellor Charlie Reed and I are committed to ensuring full and effective implementation of this new law by the fall of 201, as required in this statute.”
The AB 2302 amended by California Assemblymember Paul Fong, will require CCCs and CSUs to work together as a team and inform students and the general public of the new opportunity.
In addition it will also encourage Universities of California (UC) to survey what it would take to join the new transfer movement.
