Associated Students Organization president Nick Naczinski led a group of students on a letter writing campaign Tuesday to stop the proposed increase of student fees from $26 a unit to $40 a unit.
Naczinski , with the help of Matthew Boylan, and Patrick Maple have written a form letter which they are asking students to copy into their own words and which they plan to present to Sacramento lawmakers. Naczinski is hoping to gather 1000 letters by the end of his campaign.
“In theory I represent the students, but if I go up there with all these letters it gives me more validation,” Naczinski said.
The Legislators Analyst Office has proposed increasing junior college student fees from $26 a unit to $40 a unit and State Senator Bob Huff has backed this proposition.
Walking into professor Michael Hong’s logic class Tuesday afternoon Naczinski, Boylan and Ronald Quintero presented their case to the students there and received about 40 letters in return. The presentation and letter writing took about 10 minutes.
“Good work man. Do it to it,” said logic student Darryl Ott.
Naczinski asked volunteers from the ASO to divide into groups of three and visit around 40 classrooms over the next couple of weeks to ask students to write letters to their representatives.
Naczinski plans to travel to Sacramento and present the letters to representatives there.
“My job is to represent the students and student interests on and off campus,” Naczinski said.
Students wishing to write letters on their own are encouraged to drop them off at the ASO office.

“You guys don’t want to be paying $60 or $80 a semester next year. If we don’t do something now we could be facing that,” said Boylan.
