Women’s Basketball over-matched

Navid Khoi

The Ventura College women’s basketball team blew out the visiting Pierce College Brahmas, 94-70, Saturday.

The women’s record now stands at 14-16 overall, hindering their chances to make a playoff run.

“We were just too nervous about playing in Ventura, we played into their hands,” said Pierce head coach Jim Couch.

Ventura College is now 35-1 after their win over Pierce.

Pierce was down by 18 with nine minutes left in the game when things got heated. Ariel Hale of Ventura threw an elbow at Pierce’s Danielle Tyler resulting in an ejection.

Pierce got into early foul trouble in the second half, and gave up many second chance points.

“We fouled a lot, we just didn’t do what we should’ve done” said Couch.

Monica Jackson led the scoring for Pierce with 31 points.  Ventura’s Rebecca Griffin led her team in scoring with 25 points.

The Brahmas will host Oxnard on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
