Club: Four Corners Co-op
What does the club do?
- The club’s name refers to the four sacred directions and corners of the world, namely north, south east and west; this describes the club’s philosophy of being accessible to everybody and their practice of oneness and student unity.
- The club was created partly to honor Native American traditions and culture.
- This action-motivated club seeks to better inform students on issues regarding social justice, environment conservation, and overall health and wellness.
- It encourages its members to voice their opinions on matters that concern them.
- It aims to let students know that even seemingly insignificant gestures like being vocal about issues that affect them can make a difference.
Who can join?
- It’s open to anybody interested.
When do they meet?
- The club has weekly meetings Fridays at 10:30 a.m. in BUS 3203.
Events:
- The club has a weekly radio show in KPCRadio.com, Pierce College’s student-run online radio station, Mondays from noon to 12:30 p.m. The program, hosted by club president Kyle Morris, will focus on various social issues, as well as updates on the club’s upcoming projects and events.
- The club also has a booth that sells freshly-squeezed orange juice Wednesdays beginning 8 a.m. in the Mall area.
- The club plans on cultivating a plot of land here at Pierce College to create a community garden for various crops to be grown in an organic and low-cost way. The crops will then be distributed throughout the community. Through this, Four Corners Co-op hopes to encourage responsibility and self-sustenance when it comes to the food that people eat.
- It also plans on doing a free screening of Food, Inc., a documentary that focuses on corporate farming in the United States, sometime in April in the Great Hall.
- The club intends to bring music to liven up campus through Reggae Night, a tentative event that will happen sometime near finals week. Its main purpose is to help students relax and de-stress.
