Relationships (con)

Being a student is hard enough and having a romantic relationship only make things that much harder.

As a student in a relationship we are often torn with the question to study or to hang out with my significant other?

Not only do you have to worry about studying for a test, meeting deadlines on a paper but then you have to worry about meeting the needs of your partner, it becomes a though job.

When in relationship’s its harder to stay on top of school and your job, if you have one. You always have an extra stress of that extra person and takes away from your priorities.

Romantic relationships are demanding not only physically but emotionally, from experience when in a relationship if you are having problems with your boyfriend of girlfriend, it pretty much ruins your whole day and you can’t focus on anything else.

Often people try to deny that just because they are in a relationship does not mean they are going to stop talking to their friends. The truth of the matter is that once you get into a relationship you see your friends less and less.

Trying to manage school, homework and work is time demanding. Any time free time you will spend it with your significant other rather than your friends.

Being in a romantic relationship when you in college in a way deprives you of many things, You don’t get to go out with friends experience new people, new friendships and new types of relationship.

“I have been with my boyfriend since high school, it’s now been 3 years, I haven’t yet gone to party without him or taken a trip for spring break with my girlfriends, I hardly ever see them”. Nancy Morales, sophomore student.

Nancy loves her boyfriend but also admits that she would love him if she met him three years from now because she does feel that she got into a relationship so young.

When you go to college it is often the time that you are finally freed from your parents and are free for the first time, during the that time you should enjoy yourself and have fun not tie yourself with a relationship.

According to an article on clearinghouse.com students who are single are happier overall, they built stronger relationships with people, are able to figure out what they want for themselves and are less stressful.

“I have always thought of myself as a girl who is always in relationships, that was because I had never been single but know I think it’s the best thing that could have happened to me, m never stressed and I got to go to Las Vegas for my 21st birthday” Karla Ramirez, 3rd year student.

Don’t get me wrong I personally don’t think you should never be in a relationship. I think students should wait until they graduate school so they can have a more meaningful and healthy relationship.

While in college you are barely figuring yourself out and you need to focus on yourself and do the things you want for yourself.

Don’t miss out when you graduate you have the rest of your life to find love at least when you look back you can really say you had fun and was able to become independent on your own.

Being young and single is a gift so enjoy it while you can.
