Foolish

In the 19th century before the 26th Amendment was incorporated, it was forbidden for a person under the age of 18 to vote, let alone a woman.

Now it’s a new century and a more modern world shouldn’t we be progressing?

In New Hampshire there is a debate for the upcoming 2012 election.

The GOP lawmakers are suggesting new limits to the voting rights for college students.

Not only that but they are also considering allowing college students to vote only if their parents are permanent residents in the state. I find this discriminating and depressing.

Discriminating because they want to take a privilege we’ve been having for over a century, and depressing because instead of moving forward and trying to be equal together we are moving further back.

In addition the House Speaker of New Hampshire William O’Brien was quoted saying college students were “foolish” and have no “life experience.”

First of all, I do not think students are foolish.

Second, just because we are not 60-years-old does not mean you have to judge students and think we are not wise enough to make our own decisions.

As students they cannot see us any less and can definitely not suppose we have no experience and knowledge in things like politics. I truly believe we are the future of this country.

College students work very hard to try and become something. So, for some republican politician to assume we are any less because we are young is idiotic.

That’s what’s foolish, not college students.

I cannot believe New Hampshire is ran by people that think this way. We go by what we believe in and fight for our rights.

New Hampshire is not the only state that is trying to change the rights to vote.

Wisconsin wants to prevent students to use their school identification to validate their identity at the voting polls.

In North Carolina they are already proposing something similar.

Being Hispanic it breaks my heart to see all these obstacles these people in “power” are implementing.

I see all of these states going against people that are not any different than them.

We are all equal and should have the same rights no matter what our skin color is or whether we have wrinkles or not.

Luckily for Californians there hasn’t been any speculation of being discriminated or having our rights taken away.

But, I believe that if we ever do one day we will fight harder.

This state has more Hispanics coming in and we cannot allow people to take our rights.

We all have to stick together and fight for what’s right. And what’s right is having equal opportunities.
