The Pierce College Brahmas’ Softball Team was defeated by the Moorpark College Raiders during a double-header make up games from last week which were canceled due to rain.
The lack of offense was a key factor in the Brahmas’ defeat as they could not get key hits when runners were in scoring position.
“Can’t get any runs, if we get a couple of more hits there it’s a decent game,” said head coach Pat Grennan.
The first game was dominated by pitching by both teams until top of the fifth when Moorpark scored two runs and added five more insurance runs to get the win, 7-0.
Heather Krahling, the team’s starting pitcher, opened up the first game by striking out three of the five batters she faced and only allowed a few hits through the first five innings.
However, the Brahmas’ could not provide run support and Moorpark cracked through Krahling’s pitching in the fifth inning with two runs.
“It’s frustrating because I know that we can, we are so capable of winning, I guess it’s our mentality,” said second-baseman Andrea Sixtos.
The second game was close as both teams were tied at two a piece until the top of the fifth inning. Moorpark College again added three runs to pull away.
The Brahmas’ best chance to add more runs came in the bottom of the fourth when the team hit three singles, but could not get the key hit to drive them in. Moorpark would eventually take the lead in the fifth and win the game.
“It’s frustrating, but encouraging because we come out much stronger,” said Katie Kaigari the team’s starting third baseman. “We need to do what we do in practice because we are all good players and we just need to bring it.”
The Brahmas’ next game will be Thursday afternoon at 1 pm and 3 pm at Cuesta College.
