Student producer records a new album

Trance is a form of electronic dance music with no lyrics, but rather a mixture of beats that builds up and breaks down throughout a track.

Pierce College student Viko Roubin not only listens to Trance but composes it as well.

“From the first time I heard this music it just drew me in as no other music could,” said Roubin. “It was something different and I loved it.”

Roubin has recorded an album titled Wishes to Elohin. Elohin means God in Hebrew.

“Creating this kind of music has taught me a lot about composing music in general,” said Roubin.

The album tells the story of a guy who is on a journey to find God, but instead finds an evil genie that grants him all sorts of wishes that he desire. “Some may not understand the message I am trying to say with my music, because it is really hard to understand when you do not listen to Trance that often,” said Roubin. The message that Roubin ts to convey with his music is to be careful what you wiwsh for because you just might get it.

“I’ve been preparing to make a music video for a couple of my songs to help explain the messages,” said Roubin.

Viko was born in Israel and moved to New York at the age of 8 . He moved to California with his family when he was 14-years-old. Roubin first fell in love with this music at the age of 15 after hearing music from a Trance artist by the name of Eyal Barkan. “His music was raw, and something different,” said Roubin.

Roubin’s father bought him the most expensive computer at the time and the best software for making music to help him makheir own mtp hhat his “family is not supportive at a He continues that “financially they are, but emotionally they are not supportive at all.” Roubin is the only one in his family that listens to Trance music. “My parents do not like my music at all,” said Roubin. “I’m the odd person in my family; I am the black sheep of our family.”

Roubin also enjoys different genres of music like Hip-Hop and Techno. “I love all kinds of music,” said Roubin. “I am not just into one specific kind of music, but I’ interested in artists from different kinds of music.”

Roubin is currently pursuing his degree in business marketing. “I really want to become the P.R. director of a video game company,” said Roubn. “I love video games; I’m kind of a geek.”

Viko’s music could be currently found on iTunes or rhapsody.

“I have the business side all figured out, now I just need to pursue my dreams,” said Roubin.

Since trance music does not have lyrics, Viko is creating music videos for some of his songs for people to get a visual of what his message is. “I would love to get a female singer with a soft voice to work with,” said Roubin. “It has been done before in trance music, I just need to keep searching for the right fit.”
