Award presented to Ken Stanley

The Pierce College South Gym was full of excitement as the court was unofficially named the “Ken Stanley Court” in a ceremony with past players, coaches, and friends Friday April 15, 2011.

Marv Dunphy the head volleyball coach of Pepperdine and winner of four NCCA volleyball titles at Pepperdine was in attendance to present the award.

“It is a great honor to present this award to Ken Stanley, he has done so much for Pierce College,” said Dunphy.

The women’s volleyball team 2010 Champions were honored for their achievement and Pierce College President Kathleen Burke-Kelly presented their trophy. Members were called onto the floor individually to be recognized.

The Pierce College men’s volleyball team played Long Beach City College in a game that would have sent them to the championship round. Pierce lost in three consecutive sets to lose the match.

“We needed to win this game to move on to the championships, the only other hope we have is for two other teams to lose, which is highly unlikely,” Coach Eddie Stanislawski said.
