ASO hosts fundraiser with Maria’s Italian Kitchen

Maria’s Italian Kitchen located across Southern California will host a fundraiser Tuesday, May 31, from noon to 9 p.m. in a joint effort between the Associated Students Organization (ASO) and the private, family-run company to raise money for scholarships for Pierce College students.

ASO senator Andrea Murray, 19, works at one of the branches of the Italian restaurant chain, and she acts as the liaison between the student government and the company.

20 percent of all sales made at the specified hours on the day of the fundraiser will go to Pierce’s scholarship fund, according to Murray.

If the amount raised from the fundraiser does not reach the unofficial goal of $150, Madelyn Alfano, the restaurant chain’s owner, will be making a personal donation of $200, said Murray.

“I spoke with my manager, and he said he would speak with Madelyn about it,” said Murray. “I already wrote the letter for her to read.”

The branch closest to Pierce is located in Woodland Hills, but students may go to any of the restaurant’s locations in order to take part in the fundraiser. The chain has locations in Agoura Hills, Brentwood, Downtown and West L.A., Encino, Northridge, Pasadena, and Sherman Oaks.
