The LACCD received a report on the BuildLACCD program as it moved into the completion phase during a meeting downtown Wednesday afternoon.
$4.24 billion, or 71 percent of bond J money has already been awarded with $1.8 billion going to already completed projects.
The remaining $1.76 billion or 29 percent will awarded or the coming three years.
These construction projects were planned to last many years and include the bid process as well as designing and constructing the new buildings.
We are currently in the peak construction period and Pierce should see major construction finished by the end of 2014.
“There is also an opportunity for a new spin on our attitude,” said Chancellor Daniel LaVista.
In the future the LACCD plans to evaluate themselves based on articles from the LA Times, Annual Audits and Evaluative Audits.
“There were issues that the Times identified that if truth be told were not only honest but embarrassing,” said LaVista.
The members of the temporary independent oversight committee, which was set up to monitor the massive construction project, were introduced to the LACCD board Wednesday.
The newly appointed oversight committee differs from the existing District Citizens Oversight Committee (DCOC) in its brief existence.
The new oversight committee is meant to be a temporary committee to help the board as they try and grapple with serious construction flaws in the nine campuses.
Of the 943 projects under discussion Wednesday 15 have been completed without the Division of the State Architect’s (DSA) approval and 2 of those involved the architect’s death.
“What’s past is past, and the future should be our focus,” said LaVista.
