Volleyball coach wants title repeat

Ten years have been a success, same as his 11th season here on Pierce College.

He is the Pierce College Women’s Volleyball head coach Nabil Mardini, 40, a former USC men’s volleyball assistance coach.

He is also the director of the Los Angeles Volleyball Academy (LAVA) and LAVA Girls Club.

After leading the Brahmas’ to a state championship last year he received the Regional Coach of the Year award, the Southwest Region Coach of the Year, and the mother of all awards, the AVCA National Two-Year College 2010 Coach of the Year.

Since he joined the Pierce Athletics Department a decade ago, the team has been in a winning mode.

Since 2002, the team has won the Western State Conference title every year except for 2009 due to several injured players.

They are one of the best state teams, and from 2002 to 2008 had a streak of 61 consecutive victories and have a 77 winning percentage.

Their goals for this season is to repeat state champions, according to Mardini.

“Our new recruits are very talented” said head coach Mardini, and only affect our team in a positive way. The team had lost five key member in 2011, but the one that are still here help spread the team culture.

“The Lady Brahmas” are motivated and they learn to take care of each other, then and by doing that it takes care of the rest said head coach Mardini.

The team has already begun their seasons and are taking careful steps towards thriving again as State champs, for information on their schedule go to the Pierce College Athletic website.
