Airport security changes since 9/11

With the 10th anniversary of 9/11 fresh in our minds and the consequent changes in our country’s security since the attacks, one wonders if we are truly safe.

It is clear that airport security has drastically changed since the Sept. 11 attacks. Airports are now taking many new measures to screen and check everyone, along with upgraded security measures on planes themselves, but it is unclear whether that actually translates to safety from terrorist threats.

If someone wants to commit a terrorist act they can; and not only in countries like Iraq and Pakistan but even European countries like England and Spain as we have seen in the last 10 years.

It’s also true that many acts of terrorism have been prevented due to heightened security, improved counter intelligence, and general public awareness. However, many people are still able to forge documents and create fake identities in order to carry out acts of terror.

Terrorism is now a part of this world and we are going to have to live with it. To actually stop terrorism in all forms would take a police state on a global scale, where everyone is tracked.

With movies like “The Zeitgeist” and “Loose Change” circulating the web, college campuses and even Netflix, openly accusing the attacks of being an American conspiracy, one can only wonder what is really going on.

I myself have traveled both domestically and internationally and all I can say is that I am more worried about a malfunction of the plane then a hijacking since that’s statistically more likely.

One might ask if we are prepared for another terrorist attack, but we were prepared the first time so what can you say. There are always crazy people out there willing to do anything.
