The Pierce College Volleyball team got their fourth and fifth straight victories of their campaign on Friday Sept. 9 against San Bernardino College and San Diego Mesa College respectively.
“Practice and hard work definitely paid off.” said freshman OH Danetta Boykin.
Although both games started off close, the Brahmas took quick control over things and never lost a set in any of the matches.
“I felt we played somewhat tentative at the beginning, the team made some errors they normally do not make during practice,” said Brahmas head coach Nabil Mardini. “I hope to start the games off stronger as the season progresses.”
Despite any errors made during the games, the team never lost confidence in each other nor the match. For each play, whether they scored or not, the players encouraged one another.
Sophomore OH Kathleen Wright believes that their positive performance is a result of playing for each other. “We are playing for each other and working hard, it was our first home game and we adjusted really well.” she said.
Bob Lofrano, Pierce College athletic director, watched the game from the stands.
“As the defending state champions, everyone is coming after them and our girls are responding.” said Lofrano.
The next volleyball game for the Brahmas will be an invitational tournament on Sept. 16-17 all day at San Diego Mesa.
