Football team makes it two in a row to keep season alive

Building on momentum from its first win the Pierce College football team succeed in their second win in a row making them 2-1 in conference this season.

Both Brahmas’ touchdowns were made by running back Gregory Wanamaker during the first seven minutes of the game.

Pierce won the matchup against the Santa Barbara City Vaqueros by a score of 17-7.

“We didn’t play very good, we started off strong and then we got complacent and then we just let down our guard,” said Brahmas’ head coach Efrain Martinez.

The Brahmas suffered 13 penalties with a loss of 147 yards.

“We made some good plays and executed them well, caught the ball, we had a couple other drops and missed a couple reads but overall we are still improving every game and we got the win which is most important,” said starting quarterback Jake Basmajian.

Santa Barbara tried to make a comeback in the 2nd quarter after their first touchdown; however the Brahmas’ defense stopped their running game from succeeding in any more points.

“Watching film paid off, we didn’t get to see too many passing plays but just listening to the coaches before we came out here really prepared us for this week.” said corner back Aldain Barham in support of his coaches.

The Pierce College football team will travel to Santa Monica on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m.
