Bomb threat closes Ventura Boulevard

The intersection of Reseda and Ventura Boulevards closed for four and a half hours following a bomb threat at nearby Gelson’s Supermarket.

A call was received at 2p.m. Wednesday afternoon from an employee about a man yelling and threatening passerby’s with a bomb.

After searching the suspect’s vehicle,police discovered that a suspicious item was not a bomb but flammable material.

After arriving on the scene police closed Reseda Boulevard between Ventura Avenue and Highway 101, and Ventura Boulevard between Etiwanda Avenue and Burbank Boulevard.

The Los Angeles Police Department deployed a robot to inspect the suspect’s white Ford Explorer.  After finishing with the vehicle, the police started to inspect suspicious items within it, according to Sergeant Cindy Danzek.

All nearby stores closed and employees were evacuated including Von’s, Gelson’s, Office Deport, Coffee Bean and two gas stations.

The suspect, a male in his early 30’s, was arrested on charges of possessing flammable materials.
