High winds rile Pierce students

Santa Ana winds, reaching speeds of 45 miles per hour, swept through the college, knocking down fences and tree branches.

The high winds are expected to continue through the night, according to the Pierce College weather station.

The high winds caused students allergies to flare and blinded some students as they walked to class.

Santa Ana winds, are dry offshore winds which predominantly blow through Southern California in the fall.

The National Weather Service has posted a red flag advisory and a high wind warning for Wednesday night as winds are expected to reach speeds in excess of 45 mph.  Thursday, however, will see calm winds returning.
