Court date postponed for bookstore manager

The Pierce College Bookstore manager, who was arrested on suspicion of embezzlement in August, pushed her preliminary hearing date once more Thursday.

Kim Saunders, who had been suspended from her manager position at Pierce’s bookstore since her arrest, appeared at the Van Nuys Superior Courthouse accompanied by her attorney this morning, and waived for a new hearing date.

This is the fourth time Saunders requested and received a new date for a hearing. She has done so in November 2011, December 2011, in January of this year, and today.

“Why do we need to continue this [case] again?” said Judge Karen Nudell during the hearing. “It’s been too many times.”

Before the judge allowed the extension, Saunders was offered three years of probation and 90 days of community service work as a punishment by the prosecution, but would not accept it.

“It’s a pretty good offer,” said judge Nudell during the hearing.

Saunders arrived at the court at 9:15 a.m., 45 minutes later than the time assigned to her. She remained silent throughout the hearing, and at one point left the room to speak with her attorney.

She did not wish to comment when approached by the Roundup.

Saunders’ parliamentary hearing will take place March 13 at 8:30 a.m. at the Van Nuys courthouse.

The hearing will include approximately three witnesses, and will last about two hours, according to Saunder’s attorney, Christine Fields.
