There’s a new sheriff in town.
Pierce College has recently hired Deputy Sheriff Bill Dunkin, who has worked as a sheriff 25 years.
After graduating from the Sheriff’s Academy, he worked at the Men’s Central Jail in Downtown Los Angeles for two years.
He worked for the old Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department in Malibu and patrolled there for two years before it was renamed to Lost Hills Station; and then worked there for an additional seven years.
Duncan then went on to work for the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station for five years before moving on to work for the courts.
Duncan worked at the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Courthouse for two and half years. He then transferred to the San Fernando Courthouse for two and half years because of its geographic location.
He has worked at the college bureau for two years now and has been at Pierce College for six weeks.
Currently Dunkin is the p.m. deputy, working the 2 to 10 p.m. shift.
Dunkin wanted to work at Pierce because of where it is located as he lives nearby and it’s a convenient drive to get here.
“I just like working with the faculty and the students here, and helping them any way I can. I have always liked to help people. I think students tend to see an officer on campus in a uniform and tend to think were just here to give out tickets,” Dunkin said. “I want the students to know if they need it were here to help them to.”
