Ninety sections are in discussion to be cut in the upcoming fall 2012 and spring 2013 semester according to vice president of Academic Affairs Anna Davies.
There are approximately 17,000 students on campus right now and there will be around 16,000 next year said Davies.
Since the 2007-2008 school year the number of students on the Pierce campus has gone down from approximately 23,000 students to what it is now which is about 17,000 students. All due to the states budget problems, Academic Senate President Tom Rosdahl said.
There will be approximately a $4 million gap from what the college is spending this year and what they need to get to next year, Davies said.
In addition to the upcoming budget cuts, students will be charged $46 a unit beginning the summer 2012 session, Davies said.
“This summer is the highest increase that the students have ever seen,” Davies said.
The students seem real organized this semester, the parking lots were not nearly as crazy, and the students seem to be getting the message that if you get in a class to stay in it because they know how hard it is to get classes right now, Davies said.
“I think this is really horrible and we shouldn’t have to pay this much,” Pierce College student Nicole Guerrera said. “I think there going to have a riot on there hands because there will be a lot of unhappy students.”
