Hundreds of family and friends gathered at the St. Catherine of Siena Parish to pray and support the family of Griselda Sandoval on Monday night in Reseda, Calif.

Sandoval, a 25-year-old Pierce College student, was killed Monday, June 25 when the car she was riding in was struck by a suspected drunken driver, according to authorities.

She leaves behind her 6-year-old son Andres Ruiz, who was dressed in all white and wore a crystal rosary around his neck on Monday night.

It was the uniform worn by most of the family. The females of the family also wore shawls, in teal and peach.

Her mother, Emma Sandoval was comforted by her husband Rodolfo, as the body of their daughter was brought into the Parish.

Samuel Arreguin, 30, a long time friend of the family, grew up with Sandoval and can not remember ever fighting with her.

“She was always smiling, and was very helpful and caring,” Arreguin said. “She didn’t deserve this.”

A photograph of Sandoval was projected high above the alter of the church as members prayed for her soul, in tradition with Catholicism .

“That is how I remember her,” Arreguin said pointing to the photo. “Even now she’s smiling.”

Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, July 3 at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, followed immediately by the burial at the San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills, Calif.
