Baseball team experiences 3rd consecutive loss

The Pierce baseball team dropped their third straight game Thursday afternoon in a hard loss of 7-5 to Imperial Valley College.

This game marks the first win of the season for IVC, and gives the Brahmas their fifth loss in their last six games.

The team is at a low point this far into the season, looking much like the California weather as of late, being cold on either the offensive or defensive side of the ball.

“Consistency is our biggest problem, in all parts of the game,” said starting pitcher Derek Sesma, who picked up his first loss in four starts.

Sesma pitched another seven innings, giving up eight hits with six strikeouts and one walk, but it was the defense behind him that faltered.

The Brahmas had six errors, three of which were made by second baseman Adam Ramirez who has started the last three games.

Despite problems on the defensive end, Ramirez did his best to overcome the mistakes with his bat by going 2-3 with a walk and scoring twice.

Pierce also had good offensive output off the bats of center fielder Justin Davis and third baseman Kevin Torres.

Davis went 2-4 with a double, triple and a walk and a RBI. Torres went 1-2 with a double, three walks and scored twice.

Right fielder Nick Murphy also had two RBIs, going 1-4 with a single, and reached base on got hit by a pitch.

The Brahmas will have the day off on Friday, where the team will look to settle down and collect themselves.

“We got to stay in it for a full nine,” said Sesma referring to the team’s focus and mental strength when faced with adversity.

Pierce will be in action again at home against El Camino College on Saturday at 1 p.m., where freshman Bobby Schauer will be taking the mound.
