The same song played again out on Kelly Field with Pierce losing another game filled with errors against East Los Angeles College Thursday afternoon 15-8.
Both teams had poor outings giving away runs on errors and subpar pitching. The Brahmas combined for a total of seven errors and hit three batters while the Huskies had two errors and also hit three batters.
“We came in here dragging tail, lazy, not into it, going through the motions. Luckily they were in the same boat as us.” said head coach James Hines of East LA
East LA’s starting pitcher Elias Novelo was able to put together a solid five innings only allowing two runs off six hits.
Offensively the Huskies were able to capitalize on big errors by starting pitcher Derek Sesma and short stop Michael Hymes in the third and fourth innings to combine for a total of 13 runs.
“Like most of our losses it’s not that they beat us, we beat ourselves. “ said Brahmas coach John Bushart.
Errors have been a common theme for the Brahmas in their nine losses and are averaging four errors and nine runs per loss this season.
Looking to get some energy in the later innings the coaches made the decision to go with the reserves and give them a chance to make something happen.
“In games like this other guys get opportunities and we get to see what they can do.” said Bushart.
Behind the bats of outfielders Jordan Fischer and Cody Despain as well as catcher Jeremy Vasquez the Brahmas were able to give East LA a scare in the last three innings rallying to score six of their eight runs.
Despite the spark from the bench the deficit was too much to overcome and Pierce hung their heads in another game given away to the opposing team.
The Brahmas are heading into a long four day break before returning to Kelly Field for their first conference game on Tuesday March 5 against Oxnard College.
Within those four days Pierce are going to have to gather themselves physically and mentally, making the correct adjustments to start playing well and string some wins together.
“Things don’t turn over night and we are all realistic that we’re not playing very well.” said Bushart “we’ve got to do a lot of things as a team if we are gonna compete in our conference.”
