Student government’s first fall meeting may lack action

The Associated Students Organization of Los Angeles Pierce College hopes to have quorum during their first ASO Senate meeting of the fall semester on Tuesday Aug. 27 at 1 p.m in The Great Hall.

Valary Ambeyi, ASO clerk, said on the phone to the Roundup that they were working to ensure new senators make the meeting and that the new President, Gus Sandoval, may miss the meeting because of a personal emergency.

Quorum is the minimum number of student senators needed to be present to call an official meeting, to enact business from the agenda and to keep meeting minutes. Specifically it is one half plus one of the current senators.

Without a quorum, any action items on the agenda that Vice President Mariella Valdez creates will have to wait. ASO agendas are published on the website and on a bulletin board outside The Great Hall 72 hours in advance of each meeting.

There are currently no actions identified, Ambeyi said.

ASO is the voice of the collective student body of Pierce College. They lobby the college and district administrations on behalf of student’s needs and wants. ASO organizes cultural, educational events as well as student club events on campus throughout the school year.
