The Brahma’s soccer show that has hit the city of Oxnard defeated the Condors 3-0.
Pierce was lead by freshman captain Michelle Somers who scored two goals and sophomore Karina Ramirez added a goal who are playing as red hot as their home colors. The Brahmas have now won three straight games and have not lost a game since September 20, a 3-0 loss against defending state champion Cerritos.
The good feelings are buzzing with the women’s soccer team says Sommers.
“It’s awesome!” Somers said with a grin. “We just have to take it one game at a time and keep playing hard as a team.”
Somers who is a 22-year-old freshman played soccer competitively through her senior year of high school before injuring her knee playing for Real So Cal, a club soccer team based in Woodland Hills. Since her injury the closest thing she had come to soccer was coaching.
Then in 2012, Somers had knee surgery, it was then that she decided to make a comeback and start playing soccer again.
“After the surgery I didn’t feel like I was ready to stop yet.” Somers said. “Then the opportunity presented itself. The thing I missed most was the competition and being part of a team. It was for this reason I ultimately decided that I wanted to play again.”
With Somers on the team the Brahmas are playing at a high level. Not only have they won three in a row but they have now gone seven straight matches without a loss with six of the those games resulting in wins. They are 5-0-1 during the first half of conference play. Somers said the record reflects how hard the team has been playing.
“I do pay attention (to the standings),” Somers said. “It shows how much we have been improving and working hard.”
The Brahmas now with a record 7-3-2 get to enjoy a three-game home stand with the first game against Moorpark to finish off what has been a successful first half to the conference season.
