Pierce College is set to open brand new media design and video production suites that are geared toward online media to support PierceOnLine and to help faculty with online courses.
Both suites will not only benefit teachers by helping them reach out to their students, but will help students as well, making more lectures available online 24/7, and giving students more support and access to professors’ information.
Believing the suites will help Pierce students, Distance Education Coordinator Wendy Bass said that it will help those students that do not understand the course material. She said students can watch videos through their Moodle accounts regarding the material in an attempt to further understand the information.
“It is used by PierceOnLine, and it is meant specifically for faculty who are putting some lectures online for students.” Bass said.
Located on the bottom floor of the library, the new suites are in the process of setting up shop. With doors set to open soon, Pierce welcomed its newest faculty member, Melinda Ung, multimedia specialist. Ung will be in charge of both the media design and video production suites.
With a background in web development, graphic design and video editing, Ung said she is using her skills in order to incorporate that with the college. As part of her job she said she would be doing some “recording.”
“I’ll be recording certain stuff for the intro videos for the professor,” Ung said. “I would be editing stuff and mixing everything. This would be where I would do post production work.”
Ung said that the scheduled time for the suites are unclear as they are still in the process of getting set to open.
