The Brahmas were winless at Citrus College Tournament

The Pierce College women’s water polo team was unable to solve the aggressive defense of El Camino College on Friday, Oct. 17 during Pierce’s 11-2 loss against the Warriors.

Coach Judi Terhar who took over head coaching duties in both games for Moriah Van Norman described the Warriors’ defense.

“They had done their homework and they knew who our best players were,” Terhar said. “Their strategy was to drop in and attack our center every time she got the ball.”

The Warriors kicked off the scoring when Amanda Wullschleger shot the ball into the middle of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Pierce leading scorer Whitney Alderman would score with about 6 minutes left in the first quarter to tie the game at 1-1 before the Warriors would score five unanswered goals.

El Camino did an effective job of moving the ball and wore Pierce down to the last second.

Pierce later played San Diego Mesa College and were defeated 13-5.

The Olympians came in with a record of 12-2 and outmatched Pierce on both sides of the ball.

With the lack of depth in the Brahmas roster, Terhar was satisfied with her team’s play in the loss.

“Defensively we played much better and I’m really happy with the effort,” Terhar said. “Basically these girls have to play the entire game on their own. That means they can’t be aggressive in the game because they can’t foul out.”

Meanwhile, Alderman was quick to point out that the team played better against Mesa and that it’s not all about her.

“We played so much better the second game,” Alderman said. “I’m just proud of everyone’s effort, not just not mine. We play as a team.”

On Saturday Oct. 18, the water polo team lost 13-7 to the Chaffey College Panthers and then dropped a 17-9 contest to the San Diego Miramar College Jets.

The next game will be on the road against Santa Barbara on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 5:30 p.m.
