ASO Halloween festival moves to the Mall

Halloween is just around the corner, and the Pierce College Associated Students Organization (ASO) is ready to celebrate.

The ASO will host a two-day, Halloween-themed event on Monday, Oct. 27, and Tuesday, Oct. 28 on the Mall. It hopes this event is as strong as last years, which was held at Rocky Young Park, ASO adviser Curtis Smith said.

“It was very successful,” Smith said.

Clubs will be at the event to promote and sell Halloween-orientated baked goods. The event is open to all ASO clubs that want to participate. The fundraising is up to the individual clubs, ASO club council president Lakshika Ruwanpathirana said.

“We are having this Halloween Festival mainly for the clubs to fundraise, and so that the students can relax,” Ruwanpathirana said.

Ruwanpathirana is also the event’s main coordinator.

“For Halloween, Pierce has no other event planned, so we are hoping to create the whole Halloween atmosphere,” Ruwanpathirana said. “We want to promote student life on campus.”

Last year’s event was a carnival with rides and games. This year’s event is “more club orientated” with added club reps on-hand, ASO clerk and event co-organizer Jonathan Vazquez said.

“This event can be considered a completely different event,” Vazquez said. “This event will be just as good, if not better.”

But this year’s Halloween event isn’t just for students to unwind and enjoy themselves, Vazques said.

“We are hoping to have a good amount of people to show up to expand student involvement on campus,” Vazquez said.

The Table-Top Games, Rugby and Welding clubs will be at the event to sign up new members.

The ASO Halloween event will be on the Mall from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 27, and Tuesday, Oct. 28.
