The Pierce College soccer team defeated Allan Hancock College to win its 10th game of the season on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at Pierce.
The Brahmas defense stopped the Bulldogs from scoring but they figured out how to get past the Bulldogs defense, winning 6-0.
Brahmas forward and leading scorer Paige Wolny scored three goals for the hat trick, giving her 19 goals in the season.
Wolny’s first goal came in the 10th minute on a pass by midfielder Kiana Riles who put it through two Bulldog defenders.
Wolny would then add her second and third goals in the 65th and 75th minute.
Wolny is currently nine goals shy of the program season record set by Pierce College hall of famer Erica Vangsness who scored 28 goals during the 2009 season.
“I try not to think about that kind of stuff,” Wolny said of the potential chance at breaking the record after the game. “I just try to out and do whatever I can to help my team win.”
Pierce College midfielder Claudia Perez who has five assists and has been a source of solid passing all season long was able to score her first goal of the year in the 42nd minute just before halftime. Brahmas midfielder Marissa Albano found Perez on a breakaway who then buried a shot to the top left corner of the net.
Perez was apparently starving for her first goal.
“It felt really exciting,” Perez said. “It makes me hungry for more.”
In the second half after Wolny’s second goal the floodgates opened for Pierce who would score four goals in the second half. Backup forward Mayra Lopez added her first goal of the year off of an assist by Wolny in the 67th minute and forward Taylor Bailey would add her second goal of the year in the 77th minute.
Despite the win Pierce head coach Adolfo Perez still had concerns about the game despite the result.
“The problem all year has been the inconsistency,” Perez said. “We know what we are capable of but we have a habit of playing down to our opponent which is not a good thing. We need to play better against Ventura.”
