Pierce Baseball defeats Oxnard College after losing its last 10 games to the Condors.

The Brahmas were on a 4-game losing streak, prior to their 8-4 victory over the Condors on Saturday, Feb. 20.

“This is actually the first time we’ve beat them since I’ve been coaching in three years,” head coach Bill Picketts said. “It was kind of nice to get that one off our back.”

The Brahmas were able to get good production out of their pitcher, Brett Weisberg, who  improved over last week’s game, according to Picketts.

“[Weisberg] was way better today. He didn’t walk as many times. He was much more in control on the mound today than he was last time,” Pickets said. “Last time he was much more erratic. Today, two to three guys walked compared to last time it was eight to nine, so it makes all the difference in the world when you make them put the ball in play.”

Weisberg credited his pitching as to what helped the Brahmas win the game.

“I was more around the plate today. The balls I threw were closer to being strikes, and things went well when I was throwing a lot of them,” Weisberg said. “It definitely feels good to beat Oxnard. We’ve lost to them a lot of times in a row, hopefully we’ll go back to Oxnard on Tuesday and get another win.”

Condor’s head coach Jon Larson thought his team could have played better.

“Today’s game I think we kinda beat ourselves. We had walk’s, passed balls, and wild pitches,” Larson said. “We gave up nine free bases. We didn’t have a very good day.”

Condors outfielder Tyson Quolas felt the team made uncharacteristically poor plays.

“We came out hot with a stick, we made careless mistakes but we’ll bounce back,” Quolas said. “We just kinda beat ourselves up, we have a good team to do it all but we just got to piece it together and play as a team and as a unit, but today we didn’t get the job done.”

Despite ending the Condor’s winning-streak, Larson was impressed with the Brahma’s performance.

“Pierce College is a good team,” Larson said. “They’ve got speed, they’re athletic; they played a sound game today.”

The Brahmas have now improved to 4-6 on the season.

Pierce will travel to Oxnard College (3-7) to play the Condors again on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m.
