Car overturns in collision on De Soto Avenue

A van and car collided on De Soto Avenue and El Rancho Road near the farm entrance to Pierce College on Wednesday, March 16. A woman was driving the car that was struck.

“Victim is a 50 year old female, no major injuries and was transported to the hospital.” Officer Sean Dinse of the LAPD said.

The driver of the van declined to speak on the matter. Students of the college as well as passing vehicles stopped to see what happened.

“The car got hit by that van, then it hit the flag pole and flipped over,” said Officer Lazo-Maltez of the LAPD. “The driver of the flipped vehicle has complaints to her legs.”

Dani Moore, 22, and Ana Quintanilla, 21, both Equine Science majors walked over to the scene worried about fellow classmates and friends.

“We just literally walked over after we heard the crash,” Moore said. “We don’t know how it happened but we wanted to know.”

“We wanted to make sure it wasn’t anybody in our classes,” Quintanilla said.

Fredy Andrade, who was driving on De Soto, witnessed the collision and was stunned that the van turned to begin with.

“The light was green and we were going through the intersection,” Andrade said. “He turned [the van] and hit the black can. I was behind her. The police were already coming.”
