Cal. State Universities started accepting applications on Oct.1 through Nov. 30 for the Fall 2017 semester. Pierce College counselors suggest students apply as soon as possible before the deadline approaches.
There are requirements that are needed to transfer to one of the 23 universities. Students are able to visit the transfer center and ask for help without making an appointment.
“In order to get accepted to a Cal. State, you must complete the Golden 4,” Sunday Salter, director of the transfer center, said.
The requirements of the Golden 4 are that students must have at least a 2.0 GPA, complete at least 60 units, but no more than 70, and if the student has less than 60 units, they will need to take the SAT exam to complete the application, according to Sunday Salter.
Luis Diaz, a fourth-year physics major, said he would like to go to Cal. State Northridge because it’s close to home.
“I would like to work with the government and I hope to get my masters for physics at CSUN,” Diaz said. “Students come back to Pierce saying that their school told them that they had to get certified.”
According to Salter, many students aren’t aware that they have to get a “Certification of Achievement,” to acknowledge that they have completed their general education.
“Universities usually ask for these certificates, which are currently available online, but some of the information on the form is expected to change and deadline is still unknown,” Salter said.
Elvia Osario, child psychology major, attended the workshop and hopes to transfer to Cal. State Northridge in Fall 2017.
“I’m on the application process and I think it is a little hard and I believe the workshop was highly helpful and I would highly recommend it,” Osario said.
According to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) website, students are able to use their 2015 taxes for their new application.
Students are able to bring their laptops or even use one of the many available computers at the Student Services building. Assistance will be available Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
