Students seek job opportunities

Students interest in the health industry had the chance to attend a job fair in The Great Hall on Monday Oct. 17, and were informed about the job opportunities that employers had to offer.

Kelley Kyzer is the reminiscence Coordinator for Sunrise Senior Living- an assisted living facility for seniors of Westlake Village. Kyzer says Sunrise is dedicated to hiring qualified applicants who will provide care to residents.

“It’s a great company to work for and get experience if you’re going into that field,” Kyzer said.

According to Kyzer, experience or a degree is not necessary to get in this field. If the medical field is not something you wish to do, visit sunrise career for open positions.

Memory Care Coordinator of Sunrise Senior Living, Shannon Howell said their goal is to provide care for the seniors and to enhance their everyday life by making it a better place for them. Such positions will be open for students all around, for instance, Pinnacle Living manages five senior living communities in Virginia that offer retirement services and care for the elderly.

Dynamic homecare is an in home care service and has been open for 30 years caring for clients by providing the best in-home care services in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Long Beach, San Fernando Valley and the San Gabriel Valley.

Dillon Lutza who is one of the recruiters for Dynamic Nursing and Homecare says they hire individuals with one year of experience and offer training within their company. However, they never let you work with patients until you feel comfortable and confident with your skills.

Leonidas Delao is a Pierce College nursing student that wants to be involved in direct patient care.

According to Delao, representatives walked into nursing classes explaining the job opportunities they had to offer.

“I came around to see if anything interested me and I found Dynamic Nursing Services,” Delao said. “I am interested in the personal attendant care because it goes well with what we are learning in clinical.”

Career Technical Education Counselor David Turcotte said the Health Care Career and Exploration Job Fair is part of a program called Los Angeles Healthcare Competencies to Careers Consortium (LAH3C) which is a grant initiative to help students get involved into the health care and gain skills.

“We are helping students with real life experiences and exposing them to employers,” Turcotte said. “Our grant funding will run next year. Right now, we are very active with it so we are hoping to continue these events.”
