Comeback ends in heartbreak

After a slow start for men’s basketball where they trailed by 23 at halftime, the Brahmas rallied in the second half but ultimately came up short of pulling off the comeback win.

The Brahmas are now 0-4 in conference play and 12-12 overall.

Head coach Casey Weitzel said the team played well in the second quarter.

“It was a tale of two halves, we were a different team in the second half, and if we can figure out how to bottle that up we can go on a [winning stretch] here in these last four games,” Weitzel said.

Associate head coach Charles White described what he saw in the team’s difference of play.

“In the second half we decided to actually go play basketball, the first half we looked robotic,” White said.

Guard Anthony McIntyre was a key contributor for the Brahmas in the second half. He finished the game with 27 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.

“If he’s not scoring we don’t score,” Weitzel said. “In the second half Anthony almost single-handedly [led us] by scoring. He was the guy.”

McIntyre had the green light in the second half and led the Brahmas back to tie the game at 72 in the final seconds of the game.

“I just came out in the second half trying to score and win because it was looking embarrassing,” McIntyre said.

With 8.1 seconds left, the rival team, College of the Canyons took a two point lead that would cause the Brahmas’ comeback to fall short.

While McIntyre led the team in points, assists, and steals, he was not pleased with the final outcome.

“We still lost, but coach still liked the way we played and executed our plays at the end of the game,” McIntyre said.

Their next game will be at Pierce College on Saturday, Feb. 9, against West LA at 1 p.m.
