Men’s basketball couldn’t keep the winning momentum at home as they dropped their conference game against Cuesta College 85-70.

Head Coach Charles White said that Pierce needed to improve their finishing.

“The strategy was to combat their zone, which we had in the second half,” White said. “We didn’t win, and you have to put the ball in the basket to win the game.”

White said that guards EJ Bushner and Dylan Hicks were notable players on the court especially during the first half of the game.

Bushner and Hicks scored the most for Brahmas with Bushner scoring 15 points and Hicks scoring 14.

In the first half, both teams were toe-to-toe with Pierce taking a 36-35 lead at the half.

Starting the second half, Cuesta’s Forward Juani Dassie went on a roll scoring five points which helped his team regain the lead.

As the final quarter went on, Cuesta was able to extend the lead over the Brahmas by double digits.

Cuesta head coach Rusty Blair said that this game, like other basketball games, was difficult and spoke about the strategy for this game which is to limit Pierce and control offense.

“The strategy was to limit their inside play, allow them to only shoot one-to-one shots and no offensive rebounds for them,” Blair said.

Athletic Director Susan Armenta said the team will bounce back.

“We want our teams to thrive. I’m sure they’ll do great in the next couple of games,” Armenta said.

With the loss, Pierce drops to 11-13 overall and will travel to Ventura this Monday at 7 p.m.
